How to Become a Care Receiver

Learn who may qualify for services, what to expect, and how to connect with our team. You do not need to complete an intake form before speaking with us.

How It Works

Anyone may contact Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers to ask about services. The person who would receive services must agree to receive assistance. Our team will talk with you about your needs, review basic eligibility, and explain the next steps.

Who May Be Eligible?

Open each section below for a more detailed overview. Final eligibility is determined after speaking with our team and completing the intake process.

Live in Loudoun County
Care Receivers must reside in Loudoun County. Our services are designed to support older adults and adults with disabilities who live within the county and need assistance remaining safely and independently in their homes and community.
Age or Disability Guidelines
Services are generally available to adults age 60 and older, as well as adults age 18 and older who are living with a disability, chronic illness, or aging-related challenges that make everyday activities or access to needed services more difficult.
Homebound or Limited Ability to Go Out Independently
Care Receivers may be unable to leave their home safely and independently, or may have significant difficulty doing so because of age, disability, illness, mobility limitations, or other circumstances. This can include difficulty getting to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies, community services, or other necessary destinations without assistance.
Limited Support or Access to Other Services
Care Receivers generally have limited family, community, transportation, or other support available to meet their needs. LVC is intended to help people who may not be able to safely or reliably access the assistance they need through other available resources.
Volunteer Transportation
For transportation in a volunteer driver's personal vehicle, the Care Receiver should be able to enter and exit the vehicle with minimal assistance. Volunteers can provide supportive, door-through-door assistance, but they are not able to provide hands-on lifting or transfers that require significant physical support.
Wheelchair & Transfer Needs
Care Receivers should generally be able to support their own weight or transfer themselves between a chair and wheelchair unless they remain in their wheelchair during an appropriate LVC service such as Care-A-Van. Because mobility needs vary, our team will discuss individual circumstances during the intake process to determine what type of transportation or assistance may be appropriate.

Your In-Home Intake Appointment

If it appears that LVC may be a good fit, our team will schedule an in-home intake appointment. During the visit, we will learn more about your needs, explain available programs and scheduling, discuss accessibility or mobility needs, and review the information required to become a Care Receiver.

Getting Started Is Simple

Contact LVC

Call us or submit an inquiry to talk with a team member. We will answer your questions, learn more about the help you are seeking, and discuss whether LVC may be an appropriate resource.

Complete an In-Home Assessment

If appropriate, LVC will schedule an in-home assessment. During the visit, we will review your needs, explain our services and how they work, and complete the Care Receiver intake and admission process.

Begin Requesting Services

Once admitted to the program, you can begin requesting available LVC services. Our team will explain scheduling procedures and any information needed when making a service request.

Already a Care Receiver?

When requesting transportation or another service, please provide the appointment date and time, expected length, any special needs, whether someone will accompany you, and any additional stops or errands that may need to be approved in advance. We generally ask that service requests be made at least 10 days in advance whenever possible.
